Clothing and footwear for the garden covers gardening and work gloves, thermal gloves, children's gloves, wellington boots, short boots and garden clogs, plus specialist gloves such as welding gauntlets. The aim is to keep hands and feet dry, comfortable and protected while you work outside.
Gloves
Garden gloves range from light, close-fitting grip gloves for planting and weeding to thicker gloves for heavier work, and thermal gloves have a warm lining for cold weather. Gloves come in sizes from children's to extra large, and a good fit matters for grip and dexterity. Protective gloves tested to EN 388 carry a pictogram with performance levels for resistance to abrasion, cut, tear and puncture, and sometimes impact; a higher level means the glove performed better in that test. Every protective glove must also meet EN ISO 21420, which sets general requirements such as fit, dexterity, comfort and harmless materials. Choose specialist gloves, such as welding gauntlets, for the job they are made for.
Boots and clogs
Wellington boots come in full-length and half-length styles, and in adult and children's sizes. Clogs, including lightweight EVA and fleece-lined versions, slip on and off for quick trips into the garden. Sizes are often shown in both UK and European sizing, so check both before choosing.
Working with garden chemicals
When using weedkillers, pest controls or other garden chemicals, wear the gloves and protection the product label asks for, and follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety data.
