Description

Product Overview

The Danfoss crankcase heater 55W is a dedicated compressor heater designed to warm the crankcase and help prevent refrigerant migration into compressor oil during off cycles. Suitable for refrigeration and air conditioning applications, it helps reduce oil dilution and supports smoother, more reliable compressor starts.

Key Features

  • 55W heating output – helps maintain crankcase temperature to reduce refrigerant condensation and oil foaming.
  • Compressor protection – supports reliable start ups by minimising liquid refrigerant in the oil sump.
  • Genuine Danfoss replacement – designed for correct fit and dependable performance in compatible systems.
  • Ideal for service and maintenance – a practical spare part for planned maintenance, repairs and breakdown response.

Use Case / Application

Designed for use on compressor crankcases in refrigeration and HVAC systems where refrigerant migration can be an issue. Common installation environments include:

  • Commercial refrigeration plant rooms and cold room systems
  • Retail refrigeration cabinets and walk in chillers
  • Air conditioning systems in offices and light commercial settings
  • Service work on compressors where preventing oil dilution improves reliability

Problem → Solution

Ideal for reducing compressor start up issues caused by refrigerant migration and oil dilution, helping protect the compressor and improve system reliability.

Buying guide: Refrigeration

This category holds replacement parts for refrigeration and cooling equipment: hermetic, semi-hermetic and scroll compressors, condenser and evaporator fan motors, refrigerant oils, refrigerant cans and cylinders, adaptors, seals and fan controls.

Matching a compressor

  • Refrigerant: each compressor is built for particular refrigerants, such as R134a, R404A, R407C, R290 or R600a, so match the refrigerant already in the system.
  • Application range: compressors are rated LBP, MBP or HBP (low, medium or high back pressure) for the evaporating temperature they work at. LBP covers the coldest range, as in freezers, and HBP the warmest; check the range against what the system was designed for.
  • Electrical supply: check single phase 230V or three phase 400V, and the frequency; some models are wound for supplies outside the UK.
  • Capacity and connections: match the cooling capacity at the system's operating conditions, and choose a valved version if the system needs service valves.

Oils and refrigerants

Use the oil type and grade the compressor maker specifies. Synthetic polyolester (POE) oil is the usual choice for HFC refrigerants such as R134a, R404A and R407C. Hydrocarbon refrigerants such as R290 and R600a are flammable and need careful handling, so only technicians trained in the safe use of flammable refrigerants should open these systems.

Regulations

In Great Britain, anyone who installs, services or maintains, leak checks, recovers refrigerant from or decommissions stationary refrigeration, air conditioning or heat pump equipment containing F gas must hold the right F gas qualification, and the certificate category depends on the size of the system.

For valves, see valves; for copper pipe and fittings, see pipe systems and fittings.
