Multi Use Spreader

Lawn spreaders apply granular lawn feeds, lawn treatments and grass seed evenly, and garden rollers firm the surface. The range includes handheld spreaders, drop and rotary push spreaders, spreader packs of lawn feed, and a garden roller that can be filled with water or sand.

Types of spreader

• Handheld spreaders: small rotary spreaders, often with a scoop, for small lawns and patches.
• Drop spreaders: drop granules straight down in a strip of about 45cm per pass, which suits medium lawns.
• Rotary spreaders: throw granules out in an arc around 3m wide, which suits large lawns.

Using a spreader

Find the setting for your type of spreader in the table on the product pack, and set the dial before filling the hopper. Walk at a steady pace of about one metre per second; practise with the spreader empty between two markers. If a second pass is needed, walk at right angles to the first to avoid gaps and stripes. Too much fertiliser can scorch the grass, so keep to the stated dose, ideally in cool, moist weather before rain, or water it in afterwards. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety data for any lawn feed or treatment.

Garden rollers

A garden roller presses freshly sown seed into the soil and firms the surface, and can also be used after scarifying or feeding. Hollow drums are filled with water or sand through a sealed opening to add weight, so you can adjust it to the job and empty it to move or store.
